Saifety.ai - Enhancing Workplace Safety with an AI-Powered Conversational Chatbot
Saifety.ai is an innovative Health & Safety Management Platform designed for Navatech Group in the UAE. Navatech is changing the way at-risk workers interact with equipment and systems, to minimise industrial accidents in high risk environments. By streamlining data capture, analysis and distribution, Saifety.ai revolutionises the management of construction sites.
Challenges
Construction accidents result in tragic and unnecessary loss of life. For businesses this means missed deadlines, cost overruns and serious risk to brand name goodwill.
In 2020 Access reported that:
- 74% of workers believed training to be outdated when they received it
- 69% of construction companies in Dubai lacked understanding of health and safety, and
- 38% of construction deaths resulted from poor supervision and 25% more from lack of training.
The major challenge for managers and supervisors is limiting cost overruns given the massive scale and complexity of many projects. 98% of global large projects experience cost overruns greater than 30%. In Saudi Arabia, 82% of government projects have faced delays with average cost overruns of 42%.
Nevertheless, the scale of the opportunity is unprecedented. The Kingdom plans $175 billion of industrial and mega-projects between 2025-28. In India construction accounts for over 8% of GDP and employs more than 71 million workers. Infrastructure spending is forecast to double over the next seven years.
Digitisation offers increasing return on investment but is hampered by cultural resistance, skills gap and financial constraints. Launching a health and safety application in the Middle East faced a numbers of challenges.
- Worksites operate on a combination of international standards, including those from the US, UK and EU.
- These standards are technical documents unavailable in the preferred language of most workers.
- Access to standards and best practices about deploying them must be available at all times.
- Individual contractors have no incentive to be the first to increase costs.
Saifety.ai had an innovative idea to develop a mobile app to enhance health & safety at workplace for high risk industries such as construction by utilising the power of AI and ML. Despite their visionary concept, the team faced several challenges:
- Time Constraints: The founders were fully engaged in full-time roles, making it difficult to dedicate time to turn their vision into a working application.
- Technical Expertise: There were limited in-house technical skills and resources required to bring the product to life.
- Budget Limitations: As a bootstrapped startup in its early stages, Saifety.ai had limited financial resources to invest in full-fledged app development as an initial phase.
Solutions
To overcome these obstacles, Saifety.ai collaborated with MSBC. We provided a fully managed service to transform the concept into a viable product. Saifety.ai is an AI-driven chatbot delivering health and safety management on mobile phones. It is an onsite companion that enables workforce compliance with regulations and best practices. Saifety.ai supports multilingual communication by text, audio and video, equipped with a conversational AI and natural language processing capabilities. The approach included:
Development Services
A team of experts, including a Project Manager, Technical Lead, Mobile App Developers, Full-Stack Developers, UI/UX Designers and AI & ML Developers.
Tech Stack Selection
Extensive research identified the most cost effective technologies from both open-source and paid solutions.
POC and MVP
The team created a Proof Of Concept followed by a Minimum Viable Product to test market demand through pilot programs with a focus group.
End-User Training
End-users were trained during the paid pilot phase and found it productive and convenient to use the app on site.
Continuing Development
MSBC continues to work alongside Navatech’s own engineering team in upgrading and expanding the production version of the application.
This results in:
- Improved safety and compliance on worksites
- Increased workforce efficiency and productivity
- Easy engagement with workers in their preferred language
- Integration with third-party systems to deliver services and reporting at scale.
Outcome
The collaboration between Saifety.ai and MSBC yielded impressive results:
-
Successful Soft Launch: Saifety.ai successfully launched multiple pilot programs, gaining valuable feedback and refining the product.
-
Functioning MVP Release: The team released a fully functional MVP that demonstrated it had a viable product to take to market.
-
MVP to Full Product Development: Saifety.ai went into full-scale product development.
The benefits of digitising the construction industry include:
- 30% reduction in project timelines
- 20% reduction in project costs
- 15% fewer labour hours.
Saifety.ai is available to around 400,000 site workers in Saudi Arabia. They have access to international standards and best practices through a chat interface that allows querying the data in a preferred language. The conversational style combined with audio and video means the chatbot demonstrates and talks workers through the installation and use of dangerous equipment.
Through MSBC’s expertise and support, Saifety.ai overcame its initial challenges, turning an innovative idea into a practical, market-ready application. This partnership brought the vision to life and set the stage for future growth and success in workplace safety.
“We partnered with MSBC Group with a vision to enhance on-site safety for construction projects using AI. Their expertise and commitment helped us define a scalable product roadmap, which turned out useful for our MVP. Their innovative approach and strategic insights have shaped our platform and exceeded our expectations, making our collaboration a true partnership.
For founders building a product, whether a POC or an MVP, I highly recommend MSBC Group. Their unmatched dedication and expertise made our collaboration with them one of the best decisions for Saifety.ai!”- Prakash Senghani, Co-Founder & CEO, Saifety.ai
